Wenatchee Washington - Miles from Ordinary

Wenatchee Washington is a small community on the West side of the Cascade Range about 2 ½ hours from Seattle and three hours from Spokane. It's home to about 32,000 residents and is accessible by Highway 285 or Highway 2 from Leavenworth and the North over the mountains. Where is Wenatchee

Wenatchee sets up against the Columbia River and the Wenatchee River, just north of town, empties into the Columbia River at this confluence. East Wenatchee is located on the east side of the river and also houses the Pangborn Memorial Airport, the Wenatchee Golf and Country Club, and several residential communities and neighborhoods of its own.

The city was named for the nearby Wenatchi Indian tribe and means River which comes from canyons. Wenatchee shares its name with the River, Lake Wenatchee, and the Wenatchee national forests nearby. We're also known as the "Apple capital of the world" because of our various orchards and Apple industries within the city itself.

Weather

Like many Eastern Washington towns we have distinct seasons with our summers reaching an average high of about 90° and are winters in January reaching an average low of about 23°. We typically get snow not so much ice and our summers are dry and very warm which makes great growing seasons.

Parks

Wenatchee has a great Parks and Recreation department perfect for families and sports enthusiasts. There are several facilities around the Wenatchee area including a tennis club, swimming pool area, ice arena, and several 18 and 9-hole golf courses. This is a great location for folks that like to hunt and fish since we have hills close by and the river at our doorstep. Boating and water recreation is also pretty popular around Wenatchee and in the winter are nearby mountains provide great snowmobile trails, skiing and flooding.

Schools

The Wenatchee school district offers dozens of elementary, middle and junior high, and high schools as well as private instruction institutions and the Wenatchee Internet Academy. We also have the Wenatchee Valley College which is a two-year community college with an average population of about 3500 students at any one time.
